Most people have lots of questions about counselling and what the  process might look like? These are some of the questions that frequently come up:

  • How long will it take?

The short answer; it depends.

The actual therapy sessions run 50 minutes. How may sessions you attend depends on a number of factors so it is difficult to say. The average is about 8-10 sessions for individuals, often more for couples. The bottom line is that you only should be attending if you find it useful. During the process there is lots of opportunity to discuss the direction and speed in which we move; ultimately you are in the drivers seat.

  • What if your not the right counsellor for me? How would I know?

Being comfortable with your counsellor is extremely important. Research supports that the "fit" between client and therapist can be a key ingredient in successful outcomes. Simply put, if you are not comfortable opening up with your  therapist for whatever reason, this mostly likey is getting in the way of the the work that you would like to do. This is not just personality but also approach, you don;t necaserily be versed in all forms of therapy but I will explain my approach, why I think may a good fit for you and ultimately you decide whether I am the right therapist for you.

  • When would I know that I wouldn't come anymore?

I believe that therapy should be goal directed by nature. What I mean by that is that at the beginning of our work, we would work towards clearly understanding the changes that you might like to see, we would develop a plan and go from there. Once you have met or achieved enough of your goals, we would openly discuss next steps.

These are jet a few questions that often come up, I would be happy to answer any more that you may have at our first session.
